Abstract

Takao Ohta: „Dynamics of deformable self-propelled particles”
Department of Physics, Kyoto University, Japan

A theory of self-propelled particles is developed in two dimensions assuming that the particles can be deformed from a circular shape when the propagating velocity is increased. A coupled set of equations in terms of the velocity of the center of gravity, a second rank tensor and a third rank tensor to represent the deformation is derived starting with an excitable reaction diffusion system. It is shown that there is a bifurcation beyond which a straight motion becomes unstable. Dynamics of assembly of the particles are studied numerically and analytically where there is a global interaction such that the deformed particles tend to cause an orientational order.
